A Flying Visit to Mickey Mouse

We took a flying visit to see Mickey,
Yes that’s right, no caravan, no car. We actually hopped on a plane.

Halys and I both love Disney, we have been 4 or 5 times now and although we never spend days and days in the parks and we don’t bother with the rides we love the atmosphere, the shows, the parades and the characters.
I first saw Star Wars when it was first released in cinemas and was amazed. Disney now own the Star Wars franchise and have of course incorporated it in their theme parks. I went on the Star Tours ride in Florida in 2004. Disneyland Paris had a special season planned for January – March “The Season Of The Force” where all thing Star Wars would be celebrated. So for my 50th birthday Halys bought 2 tickets to Disneyland Paris which were valid for 6 months, her original plan to go during February half tern. Unfortunately I had booked Halys’ Christmas present for the same weekend. Doh! Continue reading “A Flying Visit to Mickey Mouse”

2nd Attempt. A Night away

So the other week we didn’t get to spend the whole night at our hotel. However as we currently have a house guest in the form of Halys’ sister visiting from Australia specifically to lend a hand and help to make some decisions regarding their dad and his care we decided to try to grab a whole night.

We booked the feature suite at the McDonald Lymm Hotel. We booked a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast package. Continue reading “2nd Attempt. A Night away”

5 Star Evening of Luxury

So It’s the Management’s Birthday today and as usual I had no idea what to buy her. The only idea I did have I passed onto the kids as they were also clueless!

So I booked Hotel Gotham Manchester a bespoke 5* Hotel in Manchester and not a Batman  nor a Robin in sight. Continue reading “5 Star Evening of Luxury”

Smithills Open Farm Day Out

It’s a Farm. A bit like Old McDonald’s Farm but with Meerkats! Smithills Open Farm is or was on a large estate in Bolton dominated by Smithills Hall. A well known hotel Smithills Coaching House was part of the estate but sadly this seems to be a housing estate now. The management has visited with a class from the school where she works and found it enjoyable and so persuaded me we should go. Continue reading “Smithills Open Farm Day Out”

Part Quatre…4 Andorra

With the weather being a bit rubbish, still warm but cloudy and rainy on and off, we decided let’s go to Andorra and do a bit of shopping.

Andorra is an independent Principality (try saying that after a few gins) a bit like Monacco but as far as I know no Prince and much less sun. Andorra is high in the Pyrenees mountains and is know as a ski resort but also as it’s tax haven status. In fact there is No Tax in Andorra…. Now think for a moment duty free with no duty. Yes that’s it Cheap Booze, Cheap Tobacco, Cheap Perfume etc….. Basically everything can be had cheaper.

Part Deux. Bites, Tyres, Doctors

Well we actually arrived without further incidents. No calling out the breakdown service (why do I pay them?) No more blown tyres. Just a nice easy drive down the A20, A61 past the impressive Airbus factory at Tolouse to Narbonne then the A9 to Perpignan. Past the now familiar landmarks of the arches on the hill and Perpignan prison. To jump.on a the D914 to Argeles-Sur-Mer.

Futuroscope

Futuroscope is a theme park in Poitiers France.
But it’s a theme park with a difference. No roller coasters, no big thrill rides, well there is but not the usual kind.

As the name suggests Futuroscope is about technology and innovation. “Oh boring” I hear some of you say, and the techie geeks amongst us start to get excited.
The park is the 2nd largest theme park in France many of the attractions are based around cinema technology, IMAX technology is extensively used. Continue reading “Futuroscope”
