First Time Out

As you may know we have bought a new caravan, Brand spanking new. We love it! We have not even been away in it yet!

We go to The Loire valley for 2 weeks in August so we decided it might be a good idea to go away for a weekend just to make sure we can use everything. And that it all works. So we have booked a weekend at Burrs Country Park Caravan & Motorhome Club site. It’s close to home, has electric and is easy to get to.

We also have a Brand New full Awning to make sure all is OK with. So we need to put that up.

Awnings usually come with the sides zipped in which makes them very heavy to pull through the awning rail. So we always take the sides out when we put them away as in France it’s usually too hot to use the sides anyway so they get folded with the awning but separate.

We go away on Friday after Halys has a clinic appointment for her shoulder.

But first the storage yard phoned me last night (it’s now Wednesday) I immediately started to panic… What’s wrong? Nothing just a better sized plot has opened up and would we like it? Duh? Yes! So we are going to move the van tonight.

So we’ll catch up with you on Friday.

Friday.

I finished work early for once, but Halys has an appointment for her shoulder. By the time she arrives home I’m all showered changed packed and waiting.

The last bits of food thrown in a bag and a few clothes for Halys and off to storage.

We are just getting all the locks off and mirrors in when a neighbor turns up with their new van so that blocks is in a bit while they get parked up.

We’re off. It’s not far. Mick & Michelle are already pitched and in the pub.

We arrive and are greeted in the usual way at a C&M club site. We chose a pitch close to the others and got on with setting up.

Everything worked as it should once we had found out you have to push the plug into the bollard and twist to get electricity….

It didn’t take long to set up and we found that we pretty much stored everything where we would keep it anyway so we found everything pretty much first time.

Time for a drink, or 3.

It rained overnight and our first night on the new bed was good. At first we both thought it would be way too hard but we both agreed in the morning that we were surprised not to be aching.

We waited until almost 12 for things to dry up and the sun to come out, when we decided it’s now or never to get the awning up.

We got all the poles assembled and the canvas I to the rail. Listed the poles into place and tensioned everything a bit. We attached all the ladders for pegging and decided that was as far as we needed to go, get it all down before it rains.

This is when the fun starts Mick and I had put it all up and took it down while the girls “supervised” but at the point we started to fold and roll the canvas back up Michelle’s OCD kicked in and she couldn’t help but take over. So Mick and I sat and supervised.

So everything packed away time for a pub lunch at the Brown Cow a very convenient staggering distance away.

Sunday was time to pack up this is when we found the only issue so far. The bathroom sink waste fitting is leaking. Not gushing out or anything but it needs sorting out.

It probably just wants tightening up or the rubber gasket refitting but we were packing and I didn’t have the right tools. At worst it will need a bead of silicone to seal properly.

So all in all a good trip.
