Caravan Service Day

The first issue getting the van serviced was finding a time when both us and the engineer Adey, had time to actually do the service.

Today’s the day 1st December! And it’s raining. Adey needs to crawl around under the van to grease up the steadies and check all the chassis bolts etc…

The van is getting “the works” chassis and habitat checks. Gas and electricity safety checks and the dreaded damp inspection!

Damp is the enemy of all caravanners. It is amazing that in 2018 manufacturers still can not make a waterproof caravan. We have boats, submarines etc which are all waterproof…. Why can’t a caravan be waterproof? Why can’t we use materials that don’t matter if they are wet? It must be possible…. But if we did that would kill of the caravan manufacturers? If they didn’t rot they wouldn’t need replacing?

Considering the confined space I’ve left Adey to it and come home for a couple of hours.

So the caravan is all fine. Well almost.
Adey is coming out to where we are camping next weekend to complete what he couldn’t do today. He could not take the wheels off due to the service yard restrictions and we need a new gator on the hitch.

Everything is fine except he did find a little damp. One tiny patch just below the offside front window which is reading 20% the rest of the van reads nothing more than 9% which considering the wet day, cold weather is perfectly normal. So Adey looked a little further and removed the window seal but there was no sign of damp and he could not see any sign of water ingress or anywhere that it could possibly be getting in. He thinks that it could just be the result of having the window open in the rain. He recommends that we check the reading again in 3 months and if there is no change then maybe look a bit further but he expects that it will get a lower reading next time.
plus when I think about it I did have the usb cable for the  Solwise Wifi Booster coming through that window. I will have to look at re routing it just in case.

So watch this space….
