Update

So our trip to France went really well!

We headed off to a small but perfectly formed campsite called Le Chant D’Oiseau just outside of Saumur. A perfect location from which to explore the Loire Valley.

But! On the way home we stayed 1 night on a ferry pitch just outside Dover and when hitching up in the morning my back went! Ouch!

That resulted in a week off work! Not impressed.

Anyway my back is much better and now after several successful weekend trips with our DA friends our thoughts turn to our imminent Summer Holiday. Where to? I hear you ask.

France. Well the Southern coast of France. Back to our favourite site in Argeles Sur Mer.

The pool looks so inviting!

So we are off in just over 2 weeks which route do we take?

There are 3 main options.

Central – the shortest route and takes you over the Milau Viaduct. A spectacular piece of engineering

Via Toulouse – an easy flatter drive takes you past Carcassonne in the distance.

Via Lyon – Never been this route and I am intrigued but I know I would want to spend more time and stop off as I have never been down this side of France.

So it’s looking like the Central route on the outbound journey as I want to stop and take some pictures of the Viaduct, (I bought a new camera and want to see if I can get some better images) unfortunately our travel itinerary does not take us past the viaduct at the ideal photographing time. Early Morning mist makes for some great images of this bridge. So we will just have to make the best of it.

The return journey will probably be via Toulouse depending on traffic.

The campsite is still a secret. Well not really it’s a very BIG campsite right on the beach. It has over 1000 emplacement but managed to still feel smaller and more intimate. We have splashed out and booked a Grand Comfort pitch with water and Grey waste drainage on pitch and 10A EHU. Why 10A? Well it will allow an air con unit to run. We are taking a portable air con unit which we plan to use at night to help sleep and in the day if the heat becomes unbearable.

We have been watching with interest the current situation in southern Europe and 45°C is not much fun. Hopefully the air con will be left unplugged but we are taking it!

We also got a festival buggy thing!

We don’t often spend that much time on the beach. Mainly because it’s uncomfortable, and carting any comfy chairs etc is a pain, so we got one of these. Big plus is it has a table top! So load it with chairs, umbrella, windbreak, cool bag for drinks& food and once you’ve set up you have a handy dandy table. Nice. It will also be useful for DA camping and the festival she wants to go to next year.

Just need to get some beach shoes and we are all set.
