COVID-19 Hits Home

Almost 12 months into the global pandemic and being super careful Covid has hit home.
Halys made it all the way to February half term, started to feel a little rough on Friday which is actually Not unusual amongst school staff. I’ve noticed that as they reach the last day of term they seem to relax and start to feel rough for a few days, but they soon pick up as they get their first couple of lie-in’s. However on Tuesday morning Halys was feeling worse and so did one of the NHS Lateral Flow Tests that she had been supplied with by school. It came back Positive!

A teary phone call to me who was at work and currently over in the Wirral. I phoned the office to tell them the good news and get them to inform the site I was currently on that I would quickly swop my trailer (as I can do that without coming into contact with anyone else) and leave site without completing any of the usual paperwork. I dropped my trailer where it could be left alone until safe to handle and parked up my DAF Tractor unit and wiped everything down with Anti-Bacterial Wipes so that it can be parked up for at least 72 hours. I had to leave site immediately without contacting any other member of staff.
When I got home and made sure Halys was feeling OK ( well not OK but not needing medical attention) I did one of her Lateral Flow Tests. Mine was Negative.
So Halys has now completed an NHS PCR test to either confirm or dispute the result of the Lateral Flow Test and until the results are in we are now isolated at home. My boss told me “try to avoid getting it!” yeah right. I’m pretty sure by now that if Halys has got it I have already been exposed massively and probably already have it, it just wasn’t detected on the test I did.

I’m not convinced how good these lateral flow tests are, so I fully expect to start to feel rough in the next couple of days.

So far other than feeling very tired and aching all over Halys is so far not too bad. Lets hope it stays that way!

Halys is absolutely devastated that she has contracted this virus as she is vulnerable because of her Asthma but also she has a procedure on her shoulder 2 weeks ago during which they gave her Steroids. The Dr. told her that she would be more susceptible to COVID for 2 or 3 weeks.

I managed to get an online shop organised and I’ve got plenty of whiskey and wine in so we should survive the isolation period!
